Therapy Cost in Las Vegas and How Superbill Reimbursement Works

Written by Family Trauma Treatment Center

Therapy at Family Trauma Treatment Center costs $150 for the first session and $90 for each session after that, according to our site. If you want to ask your health insurance company to reimburse some of that cost, we can give you a superbill, which is an itemized receipt you submit to them yourself. Whether your plan pays anything back depends on the plan.

Cost is one of the most common reasons people put off starting therapy. This guide explains what you can expect to pay, how a superbill works, and what questions to ask so there are no surprises. It is general information, so please confirm current fees with our office before you book.

What does therapy cost in Las Vegas?

Costs vary from one practice to another, so the clearest answer is the one a provider publishes. At FTTC, our site lists $150 for the initial session and $90 for each subsequent session. We accept cash or check as well as debit and major credit cards.

The first session is usually a conversation about your history, your goals and a starting point for care. Later sessions follow the plan you build with your clinician. Sessions are usually 45–55 minutes long and usually weekly, though other arrangements can be made based on your needs.

Payment is typically collected at the start of each session. That lets us complete receipts and other paperwork before the session begins, so you are not stopping to sort out paperwork at the end.

How much might a month of weekly sessions add up to?

A simple example may help you plan. If you start therapy and meet weekly, the first four weeks would look like this:

Week Session Fee listed on our site
1 Initial session $150
2 Follow-up $90
3 Follow-up $90
4 Follow-up $90
Four-week total $420

This is only arithmetic using the fees above. It is not a quote, and it is not a prediction of how many sessions you will need. How often you meet, and for how long, is something you and your clinician decide together, and it can change over time. If you need more support during a hard stretch, you may be able to meet more than once a week. If scheduling or payment is a concern, other arrangements, such as meeting every other week, may be possible. Please ask.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized receipt for your visit. It lists the details an insurance company typically asks to see when you request reimbursement for care you paid for yourself. Our site says we are happy to provide one if you would like to apply for reimbursement through your health insurance company.

A superbill does not guarantee that you will be paid back. It is a document you submit to your insurer. They decide what, if anything, they will reimburse under your plan.

How does superbill reimbursement work?

Reimbursement generally works as a sequence of steps you take with your insurer. The details differ by company, so treat this as a checklist rather than a rule:

  1. Ask your insurer first. Call the number on your insurance card and ask whether your plan reimburses outpatient therapy from providers outside its network.
  2. Ask what they need. Find out which documents, forms and deadlines apply to a reimbursement request.
  3. Pay for your session. You pay our office at the time of the session, as described above.
  4. Request your superbill. Tell our office you would like one so we can prepare it for you.
  5. Submit your claim. Send the superbill and any forms your insurer requires, following their instructions.
  6. Keep copies. Hold on to receipts and anything you send in case your insurer has questions.

Please do not put insurance details in our online request form. We will ask for them when our office reaches out to you.

What can affect how much you get back?

Several things about your plan can change the outcome, and your insurer is the only one who can answer them for you. It may help to ask:

  • Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
  • Is there a deductible I need to meet first?
  • Is there a limit on the number of sessions, or a cap on what is reimbursed per session?
  • Does the plan require a diagnosis, a referral or prior approval?
  • How long do I have to submit a claim after a session?

Your answers may be different from someone else’s, even with the same insurance company. That is why we do not promise a specific amount. We can give you the superbill. What happens next is between you and your plan.

What if I do not have insurance, or do not want to use it?

You can still get care. Our FAQ page says we offer self-pay options for people without insurance coverage, and you can contact our office to talk about rates and any available payment arrangements. Our site also mentions that some services may be paid upfront in multi-week blocks, so it is worth asking whether that applies to the care you are considering.

Some people choose to pay directly even when they have insurance, for example to keep their care separate from their insurance record. That is a personal choice, and our office can walk you through how it would work in practice. If you would rather first check your benefits, our insurance page explains how we can verify them before your first appointment.

What this looks like at FTTC

FTTC is an outpatient trauma and mental health practice at 3909 South Maryland Parkway, Suite 405, in Las Vegas. Our care is in person. Individual counseling is one-on-one work with a licensed, trauma-informed clinician, built around a plan you set together at your own pace.

When you call or send a request, our office can tell you the current fee for the service you want, explain how payment works, and answer questions about superbills. There is no pressure to decide on the phone. Many questions about billing, appointments and confidentiality are also answered on our frequently asked questions page.

Questions to ask before you book

It can help to write down a few questions before you call:

  • What is the current fee for my first session and for follow-up sessions?
  • How and when do I pay?
  • Can I get a superbill for every session?
  • What are my options if I do not have insurance?
  • Can the schedule be adjusted if weekly sessions are hard to afford right now?

Asking about cost is a normal part of choosing a therapist. You are allowed to know what you will pay before you begin.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized receipt for your visit that you can send to your own health insurance company when asking for reimbursement. We are happy to provide one. Whether your plan reimburses any of the cost, and how much, depends on your plan, so contact your insurer to ask how they handle out-of-network claims.

Will my insurance pay me back?

We cannot say, because it depends on your plan and its rules. Some plans reimburse part of the cost of care from providers outside their network, and some do not. A superbill gives you what you need to ask. It is worth calling your insurer first to ask what documentation they require.

What if I do not have insurance?

Our FAQ page says we offer self-pay options for people without insurance coverage. The session fees above apply, and you can contact our office to talk through rates and any available payment arrangements. If scheduling or payment is a concern, ask about adjusting how often you meet. We would rather you ask than put off care.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash or check as well as debit and major credit cards. Our site also notes that some services may be paid upfront in multi-week blocks, so ask our office whether that applies to the type of care you are considering. Payment is usually collected at the beginning of each session.
